Abstract: Indigenous populations in Canada, including First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples, often have limited access to health care, increasing the prevalence of many chronic conditions, including diabetes mellitus. Diabetic foot ulcers are a common problem. This presentation outlines the impact of the Zivot Limb Preservation Centre in Alberta, its use of the ‘Toe and flow’ model of care and its role in decreased major amputation rates.
