Wounds Canada aims to enhance skin health and wound care for all Canadians in part by supporting researchers working in the areas of wound prevention and/or management.

The 2026 Wounds Canada Research Dissemination Awards in Wound Care for $1000 CDN, is designed to encourage researchers in disseminating their work to inform quality improvement (QI) in wound care. You may be eligible to apply for a Wounds Canada Research Dissemination Award if you conducted research related to wound care within the past three years (2023-2026) and are working to publish your work.

Eligibility

  • The principal investigator must be:
    • A Canadian citizen or permanent resident currently active in the area of wound prevention or management research in Canada
    • A Wounds Canada member in good standing 
    • Preference will be given to applicants who have not been previous recipients of an award
  • Ethics standards for the published research were met as determined by the relevant Research Ethics Review Board 

Criteria

  • The research study must have been carried out between January 2023 and January 2026
  • The study must be suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed Canadian or International journal 
  • Applicants to identify how the research is relevant QI initiatives in DFU and demonstrating measurable outcomes for practitioners/policy makers and/or patients
  • Preference will be given to applicants who utilized an interprofessional approach in their research and/or its impact
  • Preference will be given to projects that have potential for sustained impacts
  • Preference will be given to research that can be scaled up and/or can be replicated 

Reporting Requirements

Successful applicants will have the opportunity for their research to be published in one of Wounds Canada’s two publications Limb Preservation Journal or Wound Care Canada after the 2026 Wounds Canada National Hybrid Conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario from October 22 to 24, 2026.

Wounds Canada's Award Selection Committee will review applications and make its decision based on the extent to which the research and its application address the award criteria including:

  • Meets the requirements for research and suitability for publication in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Can be scaled up or can be replicated
  • Is relevant to the critical needs in wound prevention and management 
  • Impacts or shows promise in impacting practice/policy change related to wound care
  • Impacts or shows promise in improving patient outcomes related to wound care
  • Involves the interprofessional team
  • Addresses sustainability of change in practice/policy and or client outcomes 

The Award Selection Committee members consist of:

  • Researchers in wound management, incidence and prevalence of wounds, wound healing and policy
  • Clinical expert(s) in the area of skin and wounds
  • Representative(s) of Wounds Canada
