Program Details

The goal of the Skin Health Advocate and Resource Professional (SHARP) Program for regulated health-care providers is to provide frontline health-care clinicians with the knowledge necessary to identify persons at risk for wounds and to implement appropriate preventative and treatment measures, using a systematic, interprofessional, person-centred approach. 

This 3 month program takes an average of 45 hours to complete and will produce health-care clinicians competent in wound prevention and management who are prepared to lead change in the health community.

Structure of the Program

  • 23 Skin Health and Wound Management Modules
    • Application of Best Practice for the Prevention & Management of eight common wound etiologies
  • 10 Webinar Topics
    • 1.5 hour webinars scheduled weekly on Thursdays
    • Complete the associated modules before attending the webinar
    • 3/5 Core Webinars must be attended live. Core Webinars include:
      • Webinar for Diabetic Foot Ulcers
      • Webinar for Venous Leg Ulcers
      • Webinar for Pressure Injuries
      • Webinar for Peripheral Arterial Ulcers
      • An Introduction to Practice Change
  • Learning Community
    • Participate in 3/5 weekly discussion forums with fellow learners and faculty
  • Assignments
    • Complete 2 faculty-graded assignments

Program Accreditation

After completing all components of SHARP Program, graduates will receive:

  • Graduates who complete all aspects of the program and meet the minimum hour requirement can be issued a Certificate of Completion by Dalhousie University
    • Credit Hour Statement:

      This activity meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by Dalhousie University Continuing Professional Development and Medical Education for up to 45.0 Mainpro+® Certified Activity credits.

      This activity is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by Dalhousie University Continuing Professional Development and Medical Education. You may claim a maximum of 45.0 hours (credits are automatically calculated).
