Webinar and Skills Labs Faculty

Why take this program?

This program reinforces the knowledge learned in the A100MNN (Best Practice Approach to Skin Health and Wound Management: Knowledge) program while providing a multi-faceted, interprofessional full-day on-site skills lab and a live 1.5-hour-long webinar.

Who should take this program?

Ideal for nurses and allied health-care professionals who self-identify as novice or advanced beginners in skin health and wound prevention and management, this program aims to enhance the local wound care skills of students.

What does this program offer?

This very comprehensive lab offers the learner many opportunities:

  • Complete wound measurement, cleansing, and conservative sharp wound debridement and dissection using a pig foot model.
  • Using wound images, case studies, and various practice tools and enablers, students will discuss the components of a comprehensive wound assessment, identify common goals associated with wound care, and select appropriate wound cleansing solutions and methods, forms of wound debridement, and combinations of dressings.
  • Differentiate between local, spreading, and systemic wound infection, and identify appropriate interventions to prevent and manage the bacterial burden.
  • Sort wound dressings into categories using the Wounds Canada Product Picker: Wound Dressing Formulary.

NOTE: in order to independently perform the skills practiced during this skills lab in a clinical setting, students are instructed to seek out mentorship opportunities within their workplaces and to discuss how to be approved to perform these skills with their clinical manager.

Following the 8-hour skills lab, students will join expert interprofessional faculty on a webinar to discuss their success in applying their new knowledge and skills and enablers and barriers to practice change. Using live polling, students will also discuss complex wound cases presented by faculty, demonstrating the application of best practices in wound prevention and management. Webinars occur twice annually, with an archived version available for viewing should the student not be able to attend the live session.

What will I receive once I complete this program?

Once the student successfully completes all of the program components (the skills lab and the webinar), they will receive a certificate of successful completion.
